my first render assignment

nearing the end of 2012 and I am looking for some art jobs- I wanted possibly to get into storyboarding- but being in Michigan- storyboarding is more evident in product advertising so more color and rendering is needed than black and white clean line style for entertainment boards-- so here is my dilemma- being a cartoon /comic artist- I am cool with linear representation but shaky on solid rendering and coloring- so I need to perfect these skills- hence my practice portfolio will start up now and use my portfolio blog for finished works-
I have been looking at form drawings with Scott Robertson DVD- which focuses on constructive drawing in perspective--- so I wanted to do a simple curved form in space- but i wanted to show rendering on it similar to product design drawings- so here goes- will explain the steps later today- but here is the image....
okay back again to explain- all images done in sketchbook -pro- the key is learning how to set up your grid and rough in  shape in perspective- with the ruler and protractor tools- cleaning up the line are easier than i thought (still need some planning for it) this is why so many automotive rendered images can be made with this tool- it was meant to go along with alias (auto industry tool) which is used to surface cars.... anyway after a clean line drawing is made- i just rendered the sides with a soft brush tool- and erases with a  hard or soft eraser in needed areas- thats it-
I have a lot more complicated images to attack -so i will keep practicing
